so today , i decided to do a little exploring and meet up with some old friends .
A: i started out , near where I’m staying at the Wilshire /western station , and caught an express bus up to Santa Monica. to jet over to digi comp, and say hi to David , we did some catching up and i asked for a few things that work was looking for .
David is cool
he suggested my dentist to me .. and he is just an all around really nice guy .
B: i then whet over to Honda Hollywood to price out scooter/motorcycle gear .
and talk to Kristine on the phone .. a bit
scooter gear is going to be pricey if i get decent stuff. what i thought was more interesting was that Kristine now has a bike . a ninja ..
C:while looking at paved over train tracks .. i hear .. “miss MISS!” i turn around and a sweet Ukrainian girl wanted to know where the 704 use picked up at.
she has waited bus the wrong stop and it blew past her.
so i walked her down to Santa monica Highland and explained the express buses only pick up at big intersections . she was very grateful… but alone in LA having come all the way her looking for work
and not being able to find one due to waiting on her SS card.. or green card… apparently their was a job fair out in santa monica today.
D: i decided to have lunch at inn and out burger … animal burger + fries .. i loves me some inn and out …
then up to hollywood
E: i walked most of the boulevard ,.. seeing what was new . they finished madame Tussuads. looks like an updated wax museum.. they added a Hard Rock between the Chinese theater and the Kodak theater. i think that was where Virgin was .. i decided in stead of hoping the train their .
G: I’d wander down a bit further. to see the old neighborhood. I stopped in the Army surplus store and got a nice fleece reversible hooded jacket for $20.00..and not your going .. but wait ! it’s SUMMER in CA….yes i know but at work i live in the server room and it’s a balmy.. 60 degrees ,..so YES!! A Jacket.
H: on my way to the Hollywood Vine station curiosity got the better of me when a bunch of people were sitting out sidea gallery doodling .. so a iasked nad they were doing “free art lessons”
and it was just open for anyone ot come dar..
i figured i had nothing betterot od
so i started doodling ..
and talking to some other curious peoples who also decided they felt like doodling.. i drew a mule .. which i donated to the gallery..
i met .some nice people one student who was studying 3-d computer arts .
he got my attention when he made the point that , he tried to explain ot people what he does but if he names off software they just get that glazed over blank look.. and it’s really hard to describe what he is doing in school..
soo for fun i asked him what software he was studying . ..
and he is “like you know ….. z -brush, maya, after effects… NUKE.. ”
and i stopped him their i’m really excited ot hear that schools are teaching nuke since when i was in college you had to be IN a studio before you could get it …. mostly because at the time Digital Domain still had it as proprietary software.. i think it was the summer i graduated it had started to become more main stream and the foundry was there own thing … any way ..
i asked if he had done any Houdini stuff?
and he said no but he’s like too
so i let him know that side effects down in santa monica does work shops some times .
when the drawing session ended i kept going down hollywood. stopped and grabbed a picture of boys being boys . climbing light posts . and showing off…
H: i got to the vine train station .. and one of te local homeless was asking for monies.. he as clean.. oen of the many that come out to Holly wood unprepared thinking there going to make it big . .. and end up living under a bridge.. that part of the story is sad but we can try ot focus on the positive here… so kid asks can i barrow a $100.00 I’m like WHAT? you did not just ask that..
he like i’m just hungry.. don’t i know you
..
turns out he had just come from the same free art class… i said look i don’t have money but I’ll buy you a burger.. i have one rule… no cash handouts.. so he accepted and we walked down to jack in the box .. talking on the way .
he name is Nick. he isn’t really sure what he wants to do with himself .he has talent, he really wants to be a song writer . he IS going to college .but has no place to stay right now . he is from OH.
so i got him the chicken sammich deal at jack in the box, then we wandered back to the train station..
i hopped the train down town… of course picking up another tourist .. who needed directions to rodundo beach..
patty says i should go into business as a tourist helper.. or charge $1 for advice or $25 to be a personal tour guide sherpa something like directions and insider tips for out of towners who get lost like what train to hop or bus to take or where the cheap good food is ..
so i hopped he train to wilshire vermont..

i got off at the station and took some pictures of the art there.
then headed up to my old building to see if Mora was there ( Mora used to work with Andy Whorhol.).. she didn’t answer the door at the last known address. I’ll see if Matt can reach her.. i’d like to know how she is ..
i decided to just walk the last little bit home .. on the way a littel old oriental man . with a back brace was picking up grabage in the church yard so i stopped to help him..
shoerly there after . i hear “HEY SISTER SISTER!!” so i stop. and a young man runs up
and asks about my camera,, i had my canon rebel out taking pickers .
so we get to talking
he had some interesting ideas for a magazine he wants to start up… he wanted a women opinion of it ..
it was random to say the least..
but he walked with me nearly a 1/2 mile he name was Dino, funny kid. he had missed his ride and his girl was busy so he was killing time
he invited me out fora coffee and we talked business he had questions on laptops and wanted advice on that and my camera .. ect.
he is a musician . interested in doing benefit concerts .and getting people to come together. i liked him , after coffee i headed home
