Hey all.
now I know I’m a little far away , but I had an idea and was wondering if anyone would be interested in helping me go forth with it .

as you may of heard ,The Savannah Association of the Blind was broken into over the weekend . granted only a laptop was stolen and a window broken , but this underfunded non-profit. isn’t sure they can handle this blow and keep operating. one of the things they asked for was donations of older computers ..
I know we have a lot of geeks that have a few spare boxes around and this could help them .

I will try to make a few more contacts to get us some more computers and I am going to try to find out what software would be most helpful to this org

I talked to Dr Dandy and this is there wish list . It’s reasonablely small, and a lot of these items are things that you may have sitting in a garage or storage .

this is what they need .

First, on behalf of the staff, clients, and board of directors, I thank you for your generosity. Herewith is a list of our needs. Whatever you could do for us we will greatly appreciate. The list is as follows:

10 computers with monitors, headsets, and speakers
Software: Jaws, Guide, and Zoomtec
2 TV/DVD combination
4 desk
6 file cabinets
8 chairs
2 stools
Developmental adaptive equipment for children
Monetary donation for operational expenses ( this is always needed) if you would like to donate directly to them the link is here.: Donations

what I need is someone to help with local organization.
or to at least spread the word a little….. anything is greatly appreciated.
I know you are all busy, but it you are near Savannah and have a spare computer or head phones or mice or an extra desk , all would be very helpful to this organization to be able to continue assisting the Savannah Community.

Laura just got a new computer so we have her box and monitor here. I would need to clean the hard drive and find some way to get it to them but I’m sure she’d be willing to donate it (for a tax write off of course). Also, I will talk to a couple of people about maybe getting them some donations via the private sector. Being basically blind myself I have a little pull in some circles back in KS. I’ll talk with a campus group at KU called “AbleHawks” as well, maybe they would be willing to do a fund-raiser or something.
