URGENT—HELP NEEDED. The rescue kennel was hit by vandals on June 20, 2005, in the early morning hours. The walls and some applicances and a door and the van were painted with ethnic and religious slurs and obscenities. Some cats that were being held in cages were released. Many things were smashed around and knocked down. It was frightening. Some of the poeple of the rescue have been subjected to being followed, run off the road, rear ended, threatened, screamed at, flooded to a point where they and the pets are in physical danger from flood waters because a stream has been repeatedly damned by local people, victimzed by obscene and threatening phone calls, etc. The kennel is locaated in the middle of many acres of land and is acres away from the nearest neighbor. The rescue people have been concerned about the welfare of the pets housed at the kennel and on the grounds where the kennel is located because of of an ongoing problem with some people in the area, however at this point “concern” does not describe the situation. Every pet sponsered by the rescue needs to be placed in to a new home. The rescue needs to relocate from the present location of the kennel. Threats have been made to burn down the buildings on the land where the kennel is located. It is frightening when one comes to grip with the fact that someone was inside the building, someone actually could have hurt the animals or set a fire. We, the principal people of the rescue, need help placing the pets into homes and watching the kennel at night. Anyone who wants to to help watch the building at night until the pets are into new homes should call us at 724-246-1968. Anyone who wants to adopt a pet should call at 724-246-1968. We want to relocate the rescue, but in the immediate future we really need to relocate the pets into new homes and get the rescue closed at its present location beore something terrible happens to either the pets or the people involved in the rescue. Faithful But Forgotten Friends Animal & Rescue Services, Inc. will soon have its own web location–we put up a link with this cite. Also, some of our rescue people and the folks at another rescue are putting together a book titled “Tales of Forgotten Friends”. This book will detail the stories of many of the pets that have been adopted from our rescues as well as some of the stories of pets that never made it to us before they lost their lives and pets that we took care of until the days they died. Not all stories will be sad or happy. The message to be communicated by the stories in the book will be clear. The purpose of writing this book is to raise money to relocate the kennel to a less dangerous (yes–seriously the people in our community seem to dislike the rescue and they flood our land (endangering the kennel animals) and pour human sewage upon our land (though this mess is located far from our kennel building so that it does not pose a risk to the pet’s health) and threaten our members with ethnically tinged words of violence, threaten to destroy the kennel building and file complaints against our members and generally have forced us to conclude that we need to relocate the rescue to an area that is more interested in rescue and more receptive to the cause and less hostile to the people of the rescue regardless of their race or ethnic or religious backrounds ). Despite federal and state law suits, the harassment has continued to such an extent that we have concluded that the only way to ensure the safty of the pets and the people who care for them is to move the rescue. The proceeds from the book, which we hope to have available for purchase by late summer, 2005, will go directly to the purchase of a new location for the rescue. Faithful But Forgotten Friends is now showing dogs, puppies, cats and kittens at the Washington, PA, PETCO store on Saturdays from about 11 A.M. to about 5 P.M. We can release from the Petco Washington location. We are also showing pets at the new Greensburg Petco on some Friday afternoon and evenings and/or Sundays. Call the rescue to find out times and what pets will be taken. Also, we will take a pet with us to a location by special request if you call and complete the application process in advance. We also show pets at the kennel by appointment.

Faithful friends seeking shelter
By Rebekah Sungala, Herald-Standard
06/22/2005
LUZERNE TWP. – Citing ongoing problems with neighbors and township
officials, the president of an animal shelter said Tuesday the non-profit
organization has temporarily closed its doors while looking for a place to
relocate in the Bethel Park area.
Paula Barber, owner of Faithful But Not Forgotten Friends Animal Rescue
and Placement Inc., said the staff members are looking to place animals
currently being housed in the kennel in loving homes.
The kennel, which provided free and inexpensive spaying and neutering
of unwanted animals, will not accept any more animals until a new
location has been found, she said.
The announcement came after someone vandalized the kennel and
Barber’s vehicle early Monday morning.
According to state police at Belle Vernon, someone entered the kennel
through an unlocked door at 3:55 a.m., spray-painted numerous racial
and religious slurs on the walls and stole a silver lock box containing the
kennel license and $100.
Police said the right side of Barber’s van also was spray-painted.
“It was frightening,” Barber said.
“This isn’t the first time we’ve had problems.
“We’re not going to stay here and continually be subjected to these types
of things.”
She said she gave police a list of suspects and said police told her they
are investigating the incident.
During a hearing last month before the Fayette County Zoning Hearing
Board, a dozen people, including township supervisors from Luzerne and
Redstone townships, spoke out against the board’s granting a special
exception that would allow Barber and her husband, Rollin, permission to
operate the animal facility on property zoned for agricultural use.
Barber said the facilities were in operation for five years before anyone
complained.
Located in Hibbs, more than 400 feet from Route 166, the kennel is
situated in two townships, with 10 acres in Redstone and 20 in Luzerne.
She said neighbors didn’t complain about barking until she complained
about sewage and floodwater entering her property.
“We’re very cynical now, and we’re not going to stay here,” she said.
one of the dogs taken care of by this rescue is news worthy just by herself.

Notes: Freeway, the Terrier-poodle mix in the pictue, is an exceptional soul. She saved her little’s boys life when a man was in the process of killing everyone in the family. She bite the man and prevented him from effectively shoting the boy in the head and prevented him effectively cutting the boy with a knife. After the man gave up trying to kill the boy, he set the house on fire, and Freeway dragged the boy from the house. The man stabbed her 4 times during this horrible scene and her eyes were damaged from heat and smoke. The family’s other dog died of a gun shot wound to his chest when he jumped through a window into the house. Freeway was taken to a local animal control shelter where she sat and waited for a few weeks. When none of the boy’s aunts or uncles claimed her, the shelter workers asked us to take Freeway—which we did. Her wounds had not been treated, so she had to receive surgery to clean up the wounds and close them. She also has a had a tumor removed since then. We had hoped that Freeway would be reunited with the boy, but his foster family refused to let her come and live with them because —get this excuse—she had bitten someone. That someone that the dog had bitten was the guy that was trying to kill her boy. The boy desparately wanted Freeway with him. The animal control workers told us that he was brought to see her when he got out of the hospital, and a relative said that his first smile after this great trauma came across his face when he saw Freeway at the animal control shelter. Freeway’s story is unbelievable, but true. Freeway is somewhat high strung and nervous. She is a very dedicated dog. She will take time to adjust to a new home, but in time she will be the most loyal dog anyone could ever find. She has lived with a foster family since she came into our care. Her foster family is relocating and we would like Freeway to have a home that understands her special personality and history. She does not bite without very serious cause and has never bitten anyone except the man who tried to kill her boy. She does have chronic problems with her ears and is going blind because smoke and heat damage to her eyes during the fire. She enjoys going to the groomer, but she does not like anyone messing with her ears. Freeway loves to go for rides—she is obsessed with riding in vehicles. She loves to go out to eat at fast food and ice cream shops. She is a very dedicated guardian of the home and property and all people there on. Freeway weighs about 40 pounds and appears to be a mix of Poodle and Terrier. She was named “Freeway” by her boy because the family found her as a pup on a major highway. Incidently, the man who killed the family was convicted and given the ultimate punishment. Serious applicants only. This fine pet will take with it into its new home 1 month of free health insurance from petfinder.
please post to the media , the township/ police arn’t helping. (media needed.)
and it is our opinion at petfinderboards that it may well be a developer trying tio run her off the land.
