Joshua’s mother is incensed and cannot believe the actions the school is taking to punish her son for an item that they effectively put into his hands. The school remains recalcitrant about their actions.
David Ernst, spokesman for the state School Boards Association, told the AP that even fake guns that are incapable of hurting someone could still cause chaos in a school.
“Districts have to be concerned any time there is an apparent threat to student safety,” he said.
Pine Bush School Superintendent RoseMarie Stark did not return a phone call seeking comment Wednesday.

those kids learn a lot from those clubs, not 5 years ago we still had civil war re-enactments on the school property .and could bring guns and knives to school they were considered , staples of life to some poorer families and some families that just kept to the tradition that in the fall you shoot your own meat and they came in handy in science classes .
the gun although onschool prperty was respectfully left in the car .
it was not loaded , it was part of re-enactment gear these kids who re-enact usually have more respect for their tools .
things should be broken down on a case by case basis and what was security doing snooping around his private property.
