so yesterday i realized just how home sick i am ,
i walked into Best Buy ,and started watering up looking at al the decorations and listing to them playing real music with a band instead of a synthesizers over Rhapsody(bestbuys’s iTunes)
any way i just welled up and was thinking of my father and the community band , . I’m upset that they didn’t get tot play in Ellenville this year .
oh well.
it’s beautiful you know , ellenville is nestled up against the backside of the Shawmgunks. below cragsmoore , it’s one of the prodomidtly jewish towns in the caskills , flanked on all sides by the hotel region , My dad used to play at a lot of those hotels , I remember being little and he would get home from the fallsview late at night , WE lived in a 200 year old farmhouse that had become part of a small neiborhood near the edge of town , we had interesting neighbors , Bella and Carl owned 2 huge houses at the end of the block , i rember them letting us swim in there pool, thats wher i learned to swim with out puffies, then in the summer Ginger who was only 1and i played in the sprinklers in for what our size was at the time was a big yard , i remember the weekend rids up to Uncle Mikes old farm , where they lived in a trailer behind Aunt louis’s farm house to look after her mother. I rember walks in the woods up in Hurly, and the resuvoir ,after i got my license i would seach those mountain roads at the edge of ulster county looking for the farm ; once i found it , and Uncles old model A ford ( still mint) by now they had long scince moved to newpaltz , ther’re still my favorite pair of reletives . Uncle always had the cooliest projects for when i came over , wood working stuff and modle trains , aunt lois taght me tot knitt one summer. adn we plays with her barbies and made cothing for them, ( i can make “barbie blankets”) any way i rember the walks around the neighbor hood metting my other uncle John, who shimmied up hte flag poll to change the light ontop of the beacon at mohonk tower(clik the link first pictur is the tower he climed the flag pole , next picturs are views from the tower, and them of mohonk grounds), I rember walking down to get breakfast and coming home with moldy apple pie ,, it’s a runnign gag , and aunt Louis killing my omlet ( an introduction to scraambled eggs,). Ten ialso rember whe n iwas very little going for picnics up in the mountains , i miss those we only when on a few, and in the same place we used to harvest our christmass trees ,when i was really little we had real christmass trees , I miss those they make it feel more like christmas , I remember Pookie and Spookie and the cat that gave me ringworm,.. ( don’t baby sit animals till you know they have been vet checked, or if your willing to do it your self )
I rember going to the Catskill game farm for the first time , and feeding the Llamas the deer , going on a few rides i was facinated by the animals , The herds of deer , giraffes, .
then there was my introduction to the otherside of the river , Moms relations , durring the summer they had weeklong block parties around 3 pools and 6 houses on Vasserview road in Poughkeepsie , My uncle John inherited my grandfathers piano store , , my uncle Mike had a home in Fishkills ( my first intro to snow boarding , my cousin Mike had one and he and ben were playing on it , I have no sense of balance ,) on another note , Matthew comes from the home of snowboarding ,. any wy. From that side of the family i hadthe overtly athletic cousins runningaccross my aunt pauls pool , on the inflatable rafts , and this was a 16 foot wide inground they made it accross without ropes. seeing how far we could dive , (15 feet clear out) We had some great barbecue ther , One summer while at a block party we found Jingles , A misplaced Black lab cross of about 3 years , he adopted us that night .
and after a week of no one claiming hime he was welcomed into our family.
We had jingles for 10 years , I miss him so much .
but mostly i miss my parents ,
I know we had a rough time at the latter half of my teenage years , thats a hard time for everyone , but i misss my mom on holloween and arounfd harverst time i miss making home made pies and cookies witht hter , adn littel projects , i miss my dad and riding on httetractor and playing ign mudd while they where digging the well, I miss the community band pratice in the garagde (free concerts on monday for the neighbors) Goign to Karls for a week in hte summer and hikinng arounfd the creek and catching frogs ,then getting to ride hourse and goign up hte skilifts in the summer and watching the ground break away and looking over the greene county mountains , the german fest , at hunter. adn music , camping in the buse ,. thats a family tradition I miss too.
then Becky .she grew up so fast . GInger in college and out of college down i nflordia , even if she still is a spoiled brat. :-P.
sigh ok enough.
lastly watching frieworks on my front lawn all week surrounigng the 4th.
and i just realised i can’ t spell check this because matt never loaded a diconary to open office . sigh i’ll fix it latter.
