Defcon 16
the Defcon adventure:
it was a nice wedthurnesday morning
since i work 3rd.
that started the trip we tidies up got our 3 dogs ready and waited for Phantasm to meet up with up around 9 am
to start the long drive to Vegas .
at about 8:30 Simontek calls Phantasm to check on there her is at… he hadn’t left San Diego yet .
so. we ended up meeting them halfway by noonish
yeah happy fun times .
so, on the way to Vegas . we saw some fun weather phenomena, dirt devils and a tornado just out side LV,
twitter was chirping away even in the car , and seriously I think twitter and dogeball 0wn3d defcon this year.
on our way in Kristine who had flown in twitted they were getting thunder stormed , then ch0l0man twittered that they ran out of Badges just before we got into town .. bummer.
Dropped the Dogs at Darci’s kennel.
so first night was interesting, Simontek knew DC404 was there , but didn’t realize they were mostly Goons and we ended up in a lot of the private parties.
we ended up being short on cash because I didn’t take into account , all the hotel costs and there was a misunderstanding at Phantasms bank, so he was short on his half of the room, I was able to make it after Friday , doing Badge art for “gase” donations. and received enough to get us home and buy a frugal meal or two.
Kristine Matt from apple and I tried the scavenger hunt. but the huge points was 500 to a terabyte of p0rn, and although we had access to it, they wanted physical hard drives , and we sadly didn’t bring much equipment with us. this year next year we will be more prepared with goodies. so after some math, and going thru a few items we realized that with out getting that we really didn’t have a chance. since the most we were adding up to was 360 pts if we got all the easy stuff.
Friday night was the Hacker Pimps party, we met up with Rev , Darci, and ch0l0man , hung out for a while . got to talk to the J!nx guys and meet Sean briefly .
on Saturday morning we rescued some tourists from IL and got free breakfast

Saturday day
got my badge re-soldered
I had attempted my first soldering job ever with Matts iron in the room.. i’m buying him a better precision iron.
and really screwed that up royally
but one of the guys in the hardware hacking village
was able to fix it in like 2 minutes
and the USB works I was even able to get the DEV kit from Adam up there
so thank you Adam
we met up again with Matt from Apple.
latter that night we meet up with a few more from Outerzone and hacker pimps ,
I did Quigon and valkyrie‘s badges .
Latter that night was Revcon 08,
we introduced Matt from Apple to PJ
Rev is in hacker pimps and got a badge with that theme.
Sunday , was a slow day but i got one more badge , a few more good conversations , and an offer to help EFF which I will take I’m looking froward to get project info and depending on how complicated may need to be calling a team together to help out with it.
I did submit the badges for the badge hacker contest after much coaxing from Valkyrie , and even Dark Tangent himself .
eh’ we have a few ideas for it for next year , i do actually want to do something cool with it. maybe find a way to turn it into a camera remote and stick an LCD on it.
i know my sony has a remote feature i think my Canon does too.
and closing ceremonies was fun. we ended up sitting about 5 feet from Kiminsky right up front got a few good pictures .
whent to a few parties Goon pool party, drew a fish on some dude.
Matt tried to take a nap by the pool, even asked permission from security and a staffer,
but about 30 min latter they had a shift change and the new people decided to throw him out .
tried to throw him out of the hotel…. Jeff came to his rescue.. matt was not happy, but felt better latter after we got a nap and off too to a few more parties.
we left Monday morning ,got my doggies
and took the scenic route home .
